Day 10 of the Roland Garros main draw saw its biggest headline happen off the court. Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the tournament, meaning that Jannik Sinner will be the new World #1 on Monday. On the court, it took Coco Gauff about a set to wake up, but after that, the top seeds largely continued to roll. That kept the Excitement Indexes from reaching the level of yesterday’s battles.

Fallen Seeds

Today, 4 singles matches were played and 5 seeded players bowed out of the tournament. The men’s #1 seed was Novak Djokovic, who withdrew from his match tomorrow, sending #7 seed Casper Ruud to the semifinals. #9 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas continued his winless streak against #3 seed Carlos Alcaraz. And #10 seed Grigor Dimitrov lost to #2 seed Jannik Sinner. Both matches played out in 3 sets, and the Excitement Index of each match was below the tournament average (43.04 and 52.27 respectively). On the women’s side, #8 seed Ons Jabeur lost to #3 seed Coco Gauff in the only match of the day in which the loser won a set. And #5 seed Marketa Vondrousova lost to #1 seed Iga Swiatek, who has ripped through the draw since her close call against Naomi Osaka, losing just 2 games in her last 2 matches.

Men’s seeds remaining: 6 (0 unseeded)

Women’s seeds remaining: 5 (1 unseeded)

Matches of the Day

Women’s match of the day: Coco Gauff def. Ons Jabeur, 4-6 6-2 6-3 (Excitement Index: 73.01, Excitement Average: 0.39)

Looking Forward

Tomorrow is day 11, the final day of the quarterfinals of the main draw. Players tomorrow will be in the top half of the men’s draw and the bottom half of the women’s draw. There are just 3 senior singles matches tomorrow, all on Court Philippe-Chatrier. After a doubles match, the order of play is: Jasmine Paolini vs Elena Rybakina, followed by Mirra Andreeva vs Aryna Sabalenka, with Alexander Zverev vs Alex de Minaur in the night session.

In the United States, the matches will begin on Tennis Channel at 5 am Eastern, but the singles matches do not begin until at least 8:15.

Enjoy the tennis!
