Dear Subscribers,

Day 11 of the Roland Garros main draw saw both of the top 2 seeds on the bottom half of the women’s draw fall. Because of Aryna Sabalenka’s loss, Coco Gauff will reach a career-high ranking on Monday, ascending to World #2. Both of today’s women’s quarterfinals went deep into the 3rd set, staying competitive until the end.

Fallen Seeds

Today, 3 seeded players lost, 2 on the women’s side and 1 on the men’s side. On the women’s side, #2 seed Aryna Sabalenka lost to the only unseeded player to make the quarterfinals on either side of the draw, 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva. While Sabalenka had come down with an illness, she was able to take the first set and put herself into winning positions multiple times, pushing the Excitement Index to 70.39. And #4 seed Elena Rybakina lost to #12 seed Jasmine Paolini. Rybakina came out flat, but she managed to battle back until Paolini made it to the end of the 3rd set and surged to the finish line. On the men’s side, #11 seed Alex de Minaur lost to #4 seed Alexander Zverev in a match that was close on the scoreboard but had a huge number of unforced errors and only got the Excitement Index to 54.08.

Men’s seeds remaining: 4 (0 unseeded)

Women’s seeds remaining: 3 (1 unseeded)

Matches of the Day

Women’s match of the day: Jasmine Paolini def. Elena Rybakina, 6-2 4-6 6-4 (Excitement Index: 72.67, Excitement Average: 0.40)

Looking Forward

Tomorrow is day 12, the day of the women’s semifinals of the main draw. Both matches start on Court Philippe-Chatrier, and they follow the mixed doubles final between Krawczyk/Skupski and Siegemund/Roger-Vasselin. Iga Swiatek vs Coco Gauff is first, followed by Jasmine Paolini vs Mirra Andreeva.

In the United States, the matches will begin on Tennis Channel at 6 am Eastern, but the singles matches do not begin until 9 am. At 11 am, the coverage moves over to NBC and Peacock.

Women’s semifinal previews are coming later tonight.

Enjoy the tennis!
