It has been one week since Madison Keys and Jannik Sinner were crowned Australian Open champions. The ATP and WTA Tours have not slowed down since, even though none of the Australian Open finalists played this week.

We are in the run-up to the big tournaments in the Middle East, with both tours heading into tournaments in Doha and Dubai. In the meantime, the men have been playing on the indoor hard courts of Montpellier, France or around the world in the opening round of the Davis Cup and the women have spread out to Linz, Austria and Singapore.

Last Week’s Champions

ATP Montpellier: Felix Auger-Aliassime def. Aleksandar Kovacevic, 6-2 6-7(7) 7-6(2)

WTA Linz: Ekaterina Alexandrova def. Dayana Yastremska, 6-2 3-6 7-5

WTA Singapore: Elise Mertens def. Ann Li, 6-1 6-4

Matches of the Week

Women’s Match of the Week: Linz Round of 16, Petra Martic def. Elina Avanesyan, 6-4 4-6 7-5 (Excitement Index: 99.89, Excitement Average: 0.42)

Men’s Match of the Week: Montpellier Qualifying Final Round, Alibek Kachmazov def. Hugo Grenier, 6-7(4) 6-2 6-1 (Excitement Index: 72.87, Excitement Average: 0.32)

One Incredible Moment

There is major ongoing drama surrounding an incident in the decisive moments of the Davis Cup tie between Chile and Belgium, but this week’s incredible moment is actually about the 2025 US Open. They have announced that, like the Australian Open and Roland Garros, the US Open is moving to a 15-day main draw with a Sunday start and a three-day first round. Over half the main draw takes place in the first round, so this change makes it easier to both manage logistical problems involving potential weather delays on the outdoor courts and enjoy your day as a fan moving through the grounds. And no matter how many days there are, Dweck Sports will continue to send you real-time alerts during all 4 Grand Slams so you can catch the most exciting tennis each day, at home or on the grounds.

Looking Ahead

This week, the ATP Tour goes to Rotterdam, the Netherlands and Dallas, Texas while the WTA Tour goes to Cluj-Napoca, Romania and Abu Dhabi, UAE.

There was a cool moment before the Abu Dhabi main draw began. Polina Kudermetova was drawn against Liudmila Samsonova, but she had to pull out of the tournament. The Lucky Loser who took her place? Her older sister Veronika, who pulled off the upset against the #5 seed in 3 sets.
